Do I need to keep MetaTrader 4 running?

Live updates stream while the terminal runs. If it was closed, the server reconciles your full history on the next connection, so nothing is lost.

Is my MT4 account safe?

The EA never asks for your password: it runs inside your own terminal and pushes signed, read-only reports. You can revoke the connector at any time.
